How to Save Time and Money with GATOR BASE
Hardscaping and natural stonework are not easy jobs. From heavy lifting, deep excavation, and endless tamping; being a hardscaping professional takes a lot of strength, endurance, and time. The trend seems to be that more homeowners have been opting to DIY projects. Daunting indeed, and if you’re like most, and don’t know the first thing when it comes to hardscaping, you might want to keep reading! Whether you’re a homeowner looking to spruce up your backyard design, or a contractor looking for innovative ways to increase efficiency, this blog is for you!
Let’s look at why you need to start hardscaping with Gator Base.
What is GATOR BASE?Gator Base was developed as a solution for intense excavation projects in hopes to minimize foundation prep and material use. The ultra-lightweight panels act as a replacement for up to 6” of compact crushed gravel and distribute pressure, in turn eliminating intense weight on the surface. Each panel is engineered with a tongue and groove system that interlocks each panel in place for quick and seamless installation. Gator Base has made a huge impact as being one of the first pedestrian application solutions to almost eliminate the need for crushed gravel. Why is this such an important feature? Crushed gravel is known to be crucial to paver applications as it not only helps to lock pavers into place but also provides appropriate drainage! Drainage in your hardscaping project is extremely important to ensure proper runoff and prevent heaving pavers due to freeze-thaw conditions. Each Gator Base panel is equipped with channels for drainage making it one of the most effective installation methods. |
The Install Process
When assessing the effectiveness of new and improved solutions, you want to see the numbers!
The Gator Base Way
5 panels of Gator Base = 29.4 sq. ft and weighs 6.6lbs
Original Install Method
12 wheelbarrows of crushed gravel = 29.4 sq. ft and weigh 1,440lbs
The hours saved from no longer needing deep excavation, countless yards of gravel, and endless time tamping and compacting your base in preparation for laying pavers is incomparable. A single layer of Gator Base alone replaces 6” of compacted crushed gravel and provides a significantly better thermal protection from frost and winter conditions. The process is simple.
