Landscaping is not immune to change and evolution over time. Modern landscaping has shown some major trends. Many yards now have technology, edible gardens, outdoor living areas and rainwater collection. Try incorporating some of these contemporary features into your yard.
Technology
Adding technology such as lighting, heating, solar power and sound systems have become very popular in backyard landscapes. These gadgets help increase convenience and comfort when using your outdoor areas. Pick some of them up and get outside!
Vegetable Gardens
Food is becoming increasingly more expensive with each passing year. As a result, many people are converting their yards and becoming small-time farmers and growing their own food. They are reaping the benefits of saving time and money and connecting with nature.
Outdoor Living Spaces
Living in Alberta means our summertime is precious! You want to make the most of it by creating outdoor cooking and living spaces that allow us to enjoy being outside in comfort. A major trend is installing outdoor kitchens and setting up outdoor living rooms in backyards.
Vertical Gardens
For people with condos or a smaller home, growing a vertical garden can help maximize space. They are easy to set up, and you can use them to grow food or plants to add some beauty and personality to your landscape.
Rainwater Collection
Don’t pull out the hose and use treated water that’s meant for human consumption to water your lawn; set up rainwater-capturing bins. You can make use of the rain that doesn’t make it on your lawn. It’s great for the environment and provides more water for your grass and plants.
